City manager announces interim appointments

COLUMBIA, MO (November 12, 2007) - City Manager Bill Watkins said today
that two high-level city administrators will take on new, interim
assignments, effective Dec. 4. Columbia Public Works Director John
Glascock will serve as acting director of Columbia Water and Light while
the city conducts a nationwide search to replace Dan Dasho, who
announced his resignation on Nov. 1.

Mary Ellen Lea, currently operations manager in the Public Works
department, will serve as interim Public Works director until a
permanent Water and Light director is named and Glascock returns to his
position at Public Works.

“The Water and Light position carries high expectations to not only
assure reliable utility service but to continually adjust operations
consistent with local, regional and even global events,” Watkins said.
As we search for the right person, I’m confident that John and Mary
Ellen will provide excellent leadership.”

Watkins said that citizens will experience a seamless management shift
during this period. “The critical services provided by the Water and
Light and Public Works departments will continue at their usual high
level of quality.”

Glascock was promoted to the Public Works director position in July
2005. He came to city government in 2003, serving first as the
department’s chief engineer and then briefly as acting director.
Glascock also served in various engineering positions with the Missouri
Department of Transportation from 1983 - 2003. A Boone County native, he
has deep knowledge of the area’s growth, development and
infrastructure needs. Glascock will not receive additional compensation
as a result of this interim appointment.

Lea was promoted to Public Works operations director in September 2006
and has been managing the city’s solid waste, sanitary sewer, street
maintenance, stormwater and fleet operations. She has more than 15 years
of public works experience with both the city of Columbia and the city
of Cape Girardeau. During her interim appointment, Lea will receive a
temporary pay increase at the bottom of the range set by the City
Council for the Public Works director.

Dasho, who has been the city’s Water and Light director since
February 2004, has accepted a position as general manager and executive
vice president of Cloverland Electric Cooperative, near Sault Ste. Marie
Michigan.
