City officials attending Congress of Cities
COLUMBIA, MO (November 13, 2007) - Mayor Darwin Hindman, several City
Council members and City Manager Bill Watkins will join their colleagues
from across the nation for the 2007 National League of Cities
“Congress of Cities.” Held in New Orleans, La., Nov. 13 - 17, the
event traditionally brings together local elected officials and staff
members for a wide variety of educational and work sessions.
Council members who will attend include Council Representatives Almeta
Crayton, Karl Skala, Jerry Wade, Laura Nauser and Barbara Hoppe.
According to the National League, the Congress is “…the most
important annual conference drawing more than 4,000 local elected
officials every year.” The New Orleans location, the League says, will
demonstrate that community’s recovery from events related to Hurricane
Katrina.
Scheduled session and workshops are directly relevant to the city of
Columbia and will provide opportunities for bringing back new
information. Some topics include:
● Affordable housing;
● University communities; and
● Community planning and sustainability.
For more information and a complete list of sessions, please visit the
League’s Web site at http://www.nlc.org/index.aspx.
