Public input sought on new south regional park
COLUMBIA, MO (October 23, 2007) - The Columbia Parks and Recreation
Department is inviting the public to offer input on the new regional
park planned in southeast Columbia.
Two public meetings are scheduled to discuss the park, which will
consist of the Philips and Crane tracts of land off Gans Road. The first
meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the ARC
(Activity and Recreation Center). The second meeting will be held from
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 in the Commons Area of Rock Bridge High
School. The public is invited to attend either meeting; each meeting
will cover the same content.
The public meetings mark the kickoff of the planning process for the
new park. The agenda for the first two meetings will include a
department presentation that outlines some of the physical
characteristics of the site and any established factors that impact
future development. Following the presentation, the public will have the
opportunity to present ideas for the park and the meeting will conclude
with a prioritization of proposed ideas.
The information that is gathered will be used in preparing several
conceptual designs for the park, which will be shared at later public
meetings. The public will again have the chance to comment on these
conceptual plans and indicate a preference. The entire planning process
is expected to take about 18 months.
If you have any questions about the meetings, please contact the Parks
and Recreation Department at 874-7460.
