Columbia/Boone County Health Department vaccinates 454 citizens

COLUMBIA, MO (October 24, 2007) - Staff from the Columbia/Boone County
Health Department arrived bright and early this morning and hosted the
first flu clinic of the year. The staff completed the clinic after
giving 454 flu vaccinations and 30 pneumonia vaccines.

While this initial clinic was available only to the high risk groups,
including those over the age of 50 and those with chronic medical
conditions, the remaining three clinics will be open to the general
public.

The remaining clinics held at the Health Department include:
● Wednesday, Oct. 31, 1-4
● Wednesday, Nov. 7, 3-6
● Saturday, Nov. 17, 10-1

Flu shots and FluMist are $20 during the Columbia/Boone County Health
Department flu clinics. The Health Department cannot bill private
insurances however, they can bill Medicaid and Medicare.

In addition to being vaccinated, the Health Department recommends other
practices that can help reduce the chance of getting the flu. This
includes avoiding close contact with people who are sick, staying home
from school or work when you are sick, covering your mouth and nose when
you are coughing or sneezing, and washing your hands frequently with
soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. For more information
on the flu or for a community flu clinic schedule, please
