Watch for COLT trains in the evenings
(Columbia, MO) -- Starting the week of Sept. 17, the Columbia
Terminal Railroad (COLT) will repair railroad ties on the track from
Centralia to Columbia. This construction work will require that railroad
cars usually transported during the day be done in the evening hours
through Oct. 5. The railroad repair work is part of regular maintenance
to the tracks.
Motorists traveling on roads that intersect the COLT railroad
might not be used to evening rail traffic, so they need to exercise
caution. Also, motorists are reminded that some commercial vehicles,
like school buses, are required to stop at all railroad crossings.
Trains cannot stop suddenly so drivers should never try to beat a train.
Once the railroad tie work is completed, COLT trains should be able to
transport loads mainly during the daytime hours. However, drivers should
still use caution at railroad crossings any time of the day or night.
The COLT is a short line railroad owned and operated by Columbia
Water & Light. It provides railroad freight service to Columbia and
mid-Missouri.
