New golf superintendent hired for LOW, Nickell courses
COLUMBIA, MO (April 22, 2008) - Columbia Parks and Recreation announces
that Gabe Huffington has been hired as the new park supervisor of golf
and sports. Huffington replaces Jim McClelland, who recently retired
after 29 years with the department.
Huffington will oversee the maintenance of the Lake of the Woods and
L.A. Nickell golf courses, as well as the maintenance of all city
athletic fields. His first day on the job was April 21.
Huffington most recently was golf course superintendent at Seasons
Ridge Golf Club at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake Ozark. He has
worked at some of the finest golf courses in the country, including an
internship at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York, site of the 2006 US
Open. Huffington is currently a superintendent member of the U.S. Golf
Course Superintendents Association of America and will receive his Class
A certification later this year.
He has an associate’s degree in turf and landscape management from
Ozark Technical Community College, a bachelor of science degree in
business administration from the University of Central Missouri and is
currently nearing completion of his masters of business administration
from William Woods University.
