Fire destroys vehicle on north Columbia street

COLUMBIA, MO (December 10, 2008) - Columbia firefighters were called at
1:52 p.m. to 1910 Newton Drive for a report of a vehicle fire.

Fire crews arrived and found flames coming from both the engine and
passenger compartments of a 1995 Kia Sportage. Firefighters quickly
extinguished the flames using hose lines. There were no injuries and no
damage to any structures. The vehicle is considered a total loss.

The owner, Tawanda Fair, reported to fire crews that she recently had
some mechanical service work performed on the car. When she returned
home just prior to the fire, she noticed smoke coming from the engine
compartment and called 9-1-1 for fire department assistance.

Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department were on-scene and at
this time the cause remains under investigation.
