Heavy rains cause minor flooding at Central Missouri Humane Society

COLUMBIA, MO (December 27, 2008) - The Columbia Fire Department
responded to a report of a flooded structure at the Central Missouri
Humane Society, 616 Big Bear Blvd., around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27.


Firefighters arrived and found that the outside kennel runs were under
about 12 inches of water, caused by the combination of heavy rains and
clogged drains. Crews assisted Humane Society personnel in locating and
clearing several floor drains and then firefighters used a small pump to
remove as much water as possible. The water level had dropped to under 4
inches when fire crews used the pump, which removed another inch or so
of water. 

Humane Society personnel indicated and it was confirmed that the waters
did not reach inside the kennels and no animals were subjected to the
standing water. The Humane Society remained open throughout the event.
