Health Department continues to give away FluMist
COLUMBIA, MO (December 30, 2008) - The Columbia/Boone County Department
of Public Health and Human Services continues to offer FluMist vaccine
at no charge to the public. FluMist is administered through the nose to
healthy, non-pregnant persons age 2 through 49. The FluMist vaccine is
available at the health department clinic, located at 1005 West Worley,
Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The health department
will be closed on New Year’s Day but open normal hours on Dec. 31 and
Jan. 2. No appointment is necessary.
Flu activity in Missouri occurs from mid-January through March and
traditionally peaks in February. Annual flu vaccinations are the best
way to protect you and your family from getting the flu. Protection
begins soon after the vaccination is administered. Full flu protection
occurs within two weeks after vaccination. A flu vaccination now can
provide protection during the peak flu season.
The traditional, injectable vaccine is also available at a cost of $20
per dose. Medicare, Medicaid, credit cards and cash are accepted. For
more information, please contact the clinic at (573) 874-7354 or (573)
874-7356.
