FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 13, 2008
City computers find new homes
(COLUMBIA, MO) - This Saturday, 30 of the city’s used
computers will find new homes in worthy Columbia households. The city of
Columbia, the Voluntary Action Center (VAC) and the Downtown Optimist
Club are partnering once again to provide surplus (used) computers and
equipment (monitors, keyboards, mouse etc.) to eligible VAC clients as
part of the “Homes For Computers Program.”
Thirty computers are being given away to clients who are
enrolled in VAC programs administered by VAC and who applied and were
found eligible for the computer giveaway. Those clients have been
contacted by VAC and will receive their computers this Saturday, Feb.
16. The computers will be distributed to the winning clients by the
Downtown Optimist Club, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the Downtown Optimist Club
Building, 1201 Grand Ave.
The “Homes for Computers Program” was approved by City
Council in December 2003. Previously, the city disposed of surplus
computers through the University of Missouri, Surplus Property Division.
The establishment of this program allows the city to invest in its most
valuable resource and hope for the future, our children. This year’s
program will bring the number of donated computers to 188.
Questions should be directed to Cindy Mustard, executive
director, Voluntary Action Center, (573) 449-6959.
