Public Hearing for GetAbout Columbia infrastructure projects

COLUMBIA, MO (July 18, 2008) - The Public Works Department announces a
special City Council meeting to discuss GetAbout Columbia infrastructure
projects. This Public Hearing will be held Tuesday July 22 beginning at
6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, fourth floor of the Daniel Boone
Building, 701 E. Broadway. 

This meeting has been scheduled to give all citizens and interested
parties an opportunity to be heard in relation to determining the
priorities for GetAbout Columbia infrastructure projects. City staff
will provide a briefing on the current status of the projects, followed
by public comment. Council will then determine which projects will be
funded by the GetABout Columbia funds.

GetAbout Columbia is a community wide project designed to encourage the
use of active modes of transportation, or travel other than in cars.
Funding for GetAbout Columbia is provided by the Federal Highway
Administration’s Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program. These
funds are earmarked for infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
The non-infrastructure projects of the initiative include generating
awareness of the project and providing education and encouragement
opportunities.
