Columbia Fire and Police Departments respond to late morning fire
COLUMBIA, MO (July 21, 2008) - Around 10:15 a.m. firefighters responded
to a report of a residential structure fire at 3406 Range Line St., lot
92 (Rustic Meadows Trailer Court). Reports of smoke showing from the
front door were received by responding units.
Shortly after arrival, 9-1-1 operators reported the possibility of
three white males who took four children from the home under gunpoint,
which was later ruled inaccurate and the children in question are all
accounted for. This part of the incident remains under investigation by
the Columbia Police Department, who at the time has no comment because
of the involvement of minors.
Fire crews extinguished a fire that originated in the master bedroom of
the trailer in about 10 minutes. According to fire investigators, heavy
fire damage to the bathroom and smoke damage throughout have contributed
to the $25,000 initial estimate regarding damage to the structure and
contents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The owner, Ronald Gini, was not home at the time of the fire, but did
return to the incident to discover fire crews on the scene at his
residence. During that time Gini accidentally struck the left rear
corner of Columbia Fire Department’s Rescue Squad 3. No one was
injured in the fire or as a result of the fire apparatus being struck.
No damage estimate of Squad 3 is available at this time.
