Columbia Fire and Police Departments respond to late morning fire
COLUMBIA, MO (July 21, 2008) - Around 10:15 a.m. firefighters responded
to a report of a residential structure fire at 3406 Range Line St., lot
92 (Rustic Meadows Trailer Court). Reports of smoke showing from the
front door were received by responding units.
Shortly after arrival, fire crews were notified by residents of the
mobile home park that three white males may have taken four children
from the trailer at gunpoint just prior to smoke being seen coming from
the trailer. 9-1-1 operators correctly relayed that information to other
responding fire department crews and at the same time notified law
enforcement to respond to the incident based on the information provided
by fire crews.
It was later determined that the information given to firefighters was
not accurate and that the children exited the trailer with a male
subject who had a cell phone in his hand. It appears a witness was
mistaken and provided inaccurate information to firefighters on the
scene. The children have all been accounted for as well as the male who
exited the trailer with them.
