Severe weather keeps firefighters busy

COLUMBIA, MO (July 22, 2008) - The Columbia Fire Department had an
unusually busy time as storms moved through the area early this morning.
>From 1:41 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. firefighters responded to nearly 40
calls.

In all, firefighters responded to 39 calls illustrated in the breakdown
below:

Fire Alarms 14
Commercial / Residential Structure Fires 4
Investigations 5
Electrical Odor Inside 2
Medical Emergencies 6
Other (Accidents, Water Rescue, Lines Down, etc.) 8

Many of the calls involved units responding to multiple back-to-back
calls. Due to the flooding associated with the heavy rains, the
potential for additional calls related to this morning’s weather still
exists.

No serious injuries or fatalities were reported during this morning’s
events.
