Firefighters extricate woman from upside down vehicle

COLUMBIA, MO (March 5, 2008) - Firefighters from nearby Station 3 and
Station 1 responded to an extrication accident at the corner of Rollins
and College Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. this evening. It was reported
that a Blue Ford Focus was upside down near the northeast corner of the
intersection.

Upon arrival, firefighters from Rescue Squad 3 and Quint 3 took less
than 15 minutes to complete the extrication. During the incident the 21
year old female driver (of the blue Ford Focus) had to be released from
her seat belt, loaded onto a stretcher and removed from the hatchback of
the vehicle while a firefighter maintained cervical spine stabilization.

The driver was then transported to University Hospitals and Clinics
with minor injuries only. The other driver involved was in a white
Toyota and refused medical treatment. Both vehicles had to be towed from
the scene.
