Fire on Burnam Road

COLUMBIA, MO (May 16, 2008) - Columbia firefighters were called at 8:18
a.m. on Friday, May 16, to 6 Burnam Road for a report of a structure
fire.

Firefighters arrived and entered the home, where they found a small
fire in the kitchen. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, which was
limited to the kitchen. There was minor smoke damage throughout the
first floor. The occupant of the home reported that she was working in a
back room when she was alerted to the fire by the activation of smoke
detectors outside of the kitchen. The occupant attempted to extinguish
the fire, then called 9-1-1 when she was unable to put the fire out.
There were no injuries and fire damage is estimated at $2,500.

Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department have determined the
cause of the fire was combustible items being placed on top of an
electric grill.

Residents are reminded to immediately evacuate and summon the Fire
Department if you discover a fire inside of a structure.
