Columbia pools set to open for the summer

COLUMBIA, MO (May 20, 2008) - Columbia Parks and Recreation is getting
the city’s aquatic facilities ready to open for the summer. The
Oakland Family Aquatic Center will open for Memorial Day weekend, May 31
and June 1, then will reopen for the summer on June 4. The rest of the
facilities will open June 4. 

New spraygrounds at Stephens Lake Park and Flat Branch Park are now
open to the public. The spraygrounds are unguarded facilities and there
is no admission fee. 

Pool fees for the summer are $2.25 for youth between 2 and 15 years,
$3.50 for adults 16 and older, and free for infants. However, patrons at
Douglass Pool will only pay $1 admission for the 2008 season. 

Coupon books for 2008 are available at a cost of $35 for youth and $54
for adults. The books cover 20 visits. Outdoor aquatic season passes are
available for purchase at the ARC. Costs are $220 for a family season
pass, $115 for an adult season pass and $70 for a youth season pass. 

Following are pool schedules and amenities for the 2008 summer. Pool
hours are subject to change: 

Oakland Family Aquatic Center, 1900 Blue Ridge Road-A new double loop
enclosed water slide will offer fun for pool-goers this summer. Oakland
will be open from 12 to 6 p.m. May 24, May 25 and May 26, May 31, and
June 1. Starting June 4, the facility will resume normal summer hours
through Aug. 15: 12 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
on Saturdays and 12 to 6 p.m. on Sundays. 

Lake of the Woods, 6700 St. Charles Road--The outdoor pool at Lake of
the Woods will open June 4 through Aug. 10 (closed July 4) with the
following hours: 12 to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and 12 to 7
p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. 

Douglass Family Aquatic Center, 400 N. Providence-The pool will be open
June 4 through Aug. 10. Hours are 1-8 p.m. 

Pirates’ Landing-Located at Twin Lakes Recreation Area, the facility
includes Little Mates Cove and the swimming lake. Little Mates, a water
park for children, will be open June 4 through July 31 with the
following hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6
p.m. on Saturdays and from 12 to 6 p.m. on Sundays. From Aug. 1-17,
Little Mates will change its weekday hours to 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

The lake will be open June 4 through July 31 from 12 to 8 p.m. Mondays
through Fridays and 12 to 6 p.m. on weekends. From Aug. 1-10, the lake
will be open 12 to 7 p.m. weekdays and 12-6 p.m. on weekends.
