Junior high artists create energy efficiency calendar

COLUMBIA, MO (November 24, 2008) - Columbia Water & Light is announcing
the winners of the annual calendar contest this week. Each year junior
high art departments work with Columbia Water & Light to produce a
calendar with energy themes. The calendar provides an opportunity to
encourage customers to save energy and learn about utility issues. It is
also a great platform to display the artwork and talent of Columbia’s
fine young artists. The calendar will be delivered to Columbia Water &
Light customers the week of December 1, 2008.

266 junior high art students entered the calendar contest this year.
There were 14 winners and 8 honorable mentions. Jefferson Junior High
School will be recognizing their winning students at an assembly on
Tuesday, November 25 at 8 a.m. Other schools will recognize the winners
in their art classes on Monday and Tuesday. Winners will receive a $50
prize.

Columbia Water & Light will distribute approximately 44,000 calendars
to customers this year. According to surveys, customers enjoy receiving
the calendar and use it on a regular basis. This Partners in Education
program was started in 1982 to feature the artwork of young artists who
reportedly look forward to being old enough to participate in the
contest. The utility would like to thank Julie Chapman, Fran Lakatos,
Jody Spriggs, Diane Strotbeck, and Jennifer Wax of the Columbia Public
Schools and Theresa Davis of Columbia Catholic School for encouraging
participation in this year’s calendar contest.
