FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2008 - 'Prevent Home Fires'
Get the door . . . It's Domino's and maybe the Columbia Fire Department
too!
COLUMBIA, MO (October 8, 2008) - As part of the nationwide Fire
Prevention Week activities, Domino's Pizza has partnered with the
National Fire Protection Association and local fire departments to carry
fire prevention messages with pizza deliveries.
Oct. 8-11, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., select Domino's Pizza deliveries
in Columbia will be accompanied by members of the Columbia Fire
Department. Firefighters will ask the occupants if they have working
smoke alarms and an escape plan. If they do, free food items from
Domino's will be awarded to the residents. If smoke alarms are not
working, members of the Columbia Fire Department will provide
replacement batteries and replacement smoke alarms to ensure the
residents have early warning in the event a fire occurs in their home.
Sadly, statistics from the National Fire Protection Association,
gathered from fire departments across the country, show that 80 percent
of fire deaths in the country occur where we often feel safe and relaxed
- in our homes. In 2006, more than 2,500 people died in home fires and
over 12,500 suffered injuries.
Having working smoke alarms and planning and practicing a family fire
escape plan greatly reduces the chance of death and injury in the event
of a fire in your home.
Fire Prevention Week is actively supported by fire departments across
the country. For 85 years fire departments have observed Fire Prevention
Week, making it the longest running public health and safety observance
on record.
