City to host overview of Natural Resources Inventory project

(COLUMBIA, MO) -- The city of Columbia will host a public
overview of the Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) project, Monday, Oct.
13, 7-9 p.m. at the ARC, 1701 West Ash.
The NRI is a compilation of baseline data, descriptions and maps
that document the natural resources in the Columbia metro area. The NRI
data is being assembled by the University of Missouri Geographic
Resource Center (GRC). Timothy Haithcoat, GRC program director, will
present a detailed overview of the project’s scope, the natural assets
included in the project and how the inventory was carried out.
The NRI data will help guide public policy decisions related to
issues such as land preservation, storm water management, climate
change, energy uses, green infrastructure and measuring growth rates.
The NRI project supports many of the Vision goals and strategies
outlined by Citizen Topic Groups, including Community Character,
Development, Environment and Parks and Recreation. For more information
about Columbia's vision for a connected, informed and engaged community,
visit the “community visioning” page on the city’s Web site at
www.GoColumbiaMo.com.
For more information about NRI, please contact Assistant City
Manager Tony St. Romaine at (573) 874-7214.
