Flu clinics start tomorrow

COLUMBIA, MO (October 13, 2008) - The first of three mass flu clinics
will take place tomorrow at the Columbia/Boone County Department of
Public Health and Human Services, 1005 West Worley in Columbia.

The 2008 clinics, which are open to all citizens, will be held: 
TOMORROW - Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 8-11 a.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 1-6 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 20, from 2-7 p.m.

Flu vaccinations will be available during the regularly scheduled Rural
Health Clinics on the following dates:
Thursday, Oct. 16, from 10-11 a.m. at the Centralia Senior Center
Thursday, Oct. 16, from noon-1:30 p.m. at the Boone County offices in
Centralia
Thursday, Oct. 16, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Sturgeon Senior Center
Thursday, Oct. 23, from 9-10 a.m. at the Hartsburg American Legion
Hall
Thursday, Oct. 23, from 11 a.m. -noon at the Ashland Senior Center

Other clinic dates include:
Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Ashland Optimist Building
Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Columbia/Boone County
Department of Public Health 
and Human Services (VOTE AND VACCINATE!)

For faster service, people can fill out the required consent forms
prior to arrival at the flu clinic. To download the forms, visit

to the health department’s flu page. Flu vaccine is available for $20
and pneumonia vaccination is available for citizens age 65 and over for
$40. The health department accepts cash, check or credit cards. Medicaid
and Medicare clients will receive the vaccinations at no charge.
Receipts will be issued to individuals requesting them.

The importance of receiving a flu vaccination cannot be understated.
Information from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services
(DHSS) reports that in the United States, influenza is associated with
more than 36,000 deaths and over 200,000 hospitalizations annually.
According to DHSS, during the 2007-08 flu season, 2,614 deaths in
Missouri involved flu and pneumonia.
