Early morning extrication accident leaves one dead, two injured

COLUMBIA, MO (October 11, 2008) - Columbia firefighters were called at
5:04 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, to Highway 63 South at Vandiver Drive
for a report of an extrication accident.

Fire crews arrived and found a white Ford Explorer on its roof in the
southbound lanes. Three passengers were found injured and one was
discovered trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters worked for
approximately 15 minutes to free the trapped occupant. Two patients, one
male and one female, were transported to University Hospital with
moderate injuries and one female patient was pronounced dead at the
scene by staff from the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office. 

Any media inquiries relating to the accident investigation, or the
release of the victim's names, should be directed to the Columbia Police
Department.
