Single car accident results in one transported to hospital
COLUMBIA, MO (September 4, 2008) - A single car accident that was later
upgraded to an extrication accident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. this
morning on I-70 westbound at the connector.
A female driver of a grey 2003 Ford Taurus was transported to
University Hospital with moderate injuries as a result of the accident.
Firefighters used hydraulic tools and equipment to extricate the driver
from the heavily damaged vehicle in just over five minutes. The
vehicle’s “B” post (between the front post of the passenger
compartment and the rear) had to be cut before the door was “popped”
to access the driver.
Firefighters on the scene stated that the car came to rest upright on
the north side of the westbound lanes of I-70 just west of the
connector. The vehicle struck the guard rail and caused major damage to
the driver’s side of the car with the rail still impaled into the
rear. The Department of Natural Resources was also notified due to the
contents of the fuel tank that leaked into a nearby ditch and
subsequently into the Hinkson Creek by the time fire crews arrived.
No other injuries were reported during this incident.
