CORRECTION - Clark Lane incident on Sept. 14, 'road closed' barricades
and signs
COLUMBIA, MO (September 15, 2008) - It was stated during the press
briefing on Sunday that signs had not been posted on Clark Lane at
Hominy Branch Creek prior to the incident at 2:53 a.m. on Sunday, Sept.
14.
The Columbia Public Works Department did in fact receive a request by
Joint Communications to place signs on Clark Lane on both sides of the
Hominy Branch Creek on Saturday, Sept. 13, at about 10:30 p.m. Columbia
police were on the scene when the "road closed" signs and barricades
were placed by Public Works.
The signs and barricades had been moved at some point and were present
but not blocking the road when emergency crews from the Columbia Fire
Department arrived on the scene after being dispatched to the water
rescue call.
We regret the error.
This is an opportunity to remind motorists and pedestrians to heed the
warning signs posted by local officials and a plea to those who feel
inclined not to heed the warning, to not move the barricades or signs.
By doing so, you may be placing not only your life, but the lives of
others in danger.
