Cooking fire sends one to the hospital
COLUMBIA, MO (September 26, 2008) - Around 10:30 a.m. this morning,
firefighters responded to 305 Fisher Walkway for a commercial structure
fire.
A CPD officer found Rosalie Maurer (78 year-old of 305 Fisher Walkway)
sitting in front of her residence suffering from possible smoke
inhalation. Firefighters arrived a short time later to find a
smoke-filled apartment with a hot cooking pan in the sink and no fire.
Shortly after it was confirmed that there was no fire, Rosalie Maurer
went into cardiac arrest in the front yard. Firefighters immediately
began CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) as a medic unit on the scene
was requested for transport. The quick response and effective CPR of the
firefighters on the scene resulted in Maurer regaining a pulse prior to
being transported to University Hospital as a class one trauma patient.
The present condition of Maurer is not known at this time.
The incident was determined to be a cooking fire, which is not being
investigated at this time. No loss estimate is available, as there is no
visible damage to the contents or structure other than the smell of
smoke and stains.
