Creeks Edge house fire
COLUMBIA, MO (April 6, 2009) - The Columbia Fire Department was
dispatched at 11:42 a.m. on Monday, April 7, to 2413 Creeks Edge for a
report of a house on fire. The caller to 9-1-1, Eric Brockmann, reported
seeing fire consuming the entire front of the duplex and reported
hearing what sounded like a small explosion. Brockmann, who lives in the
duplex to the east, then ran to 2413 and 2415 to alert the occupants. In
addition, Brockmann used a garden hose in an attempt to douse the fire,
but there was simply too much fire for the hose to have any effect.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the south
side of the duplex and began both fire fighting efforts, as well as
search and rescue efforts. The occupants of both sides of the duplex
were quickly located and were not injured.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 20
minutes. The garage of 2413 Creeks Edges sustained substantial fire and
smoke damage. The living area of the duplex at 2413 sustained minor
smoke and water damage. The east side of the duplex at 2415 Creeks Edge
sustained very minor smoke damage.
The occupants of both 2413 and 2415 were not injured and will stay with
relatives and friends until such time the structure can be repaired.
Columbia Fire Department investigators determined the fire began in the
garage area of the home. Due to extensive fire damage in the garage, to
the vehicle in the garage and the storage of many items in the garage,
fire investigators are unable to determine an exact cause. Damage to the
structure and contents is estimated at $30,000.
