Council approves domestic partnership registry
Department of Public Health and Human Services to maintain database

COLUMBIA, MO (April 7, 2009) - The Columbia City Council voted last
night to establish a domestic partnership registry for the city of
Columbia. Couples who meet the following qualifications may begin
registering today at the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public
Health and Human Services at 1005 West Worley: 

Have lived together for at least six months, with each intending to
live with the other and share the common life necessities 
Are each 18 or older and mentally competent to form a contract 
Are not related by blood closer than would bar marriage in Missouri 
Are not married to any other person and are each other's only domestic
partner 
Couples wishing to register may do so between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.,
Monday-Friday, at the health department for a cost of $25. The required
application is available by following links to the health department’s
page from the city of Columbia Web site, www.GoColumbiaMo.com
