Intersection analysis for red light cameras

COLUMBIA, MO (April 20, 2009) - The Columbia Police Department
announces that, as part of the city's “red light” camera project,
Allstate Consultants will evaluate two street intersections on April
21-22 (weather permitting). The intersections are at Stadium Boulevard
and Worley Street and at Providence Road and Broadway.

No red light cameras will be installed at this time, but citizens will
notice equipment, vehicles and people at these intersections.

Allstate is working as a subcontractor for GATSO USA, the company
selected to install, monitor and operate Columbia’s program to limit
the number of drivers running red lights.

The City Council passed an ordinance in August 2006 that provided for
enforcement of red light violations and authorized the city manager to
initiate a red light camera request for proposal (RFP) process for
installing, operating and administering a red light camera enforcement
system. In August 2007, the city entered into an agreement with Laser
Craft Inc. of Norcross, Ga., for the installation of red light cameras
at priority intersections. Both parties agreed to end that agreement
earlier this year.
