More than 2,000 volunteers are scheduled to ‘Cleanup Columbia’
Saturday

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia’s Office of Volunteer
Services reports that 2,076 volunteers representing 189 groups have
registered to participate in this Saturday’s Cleanup Columbia event,
making it the largest city-wide cleanup in the event’s 13 year
history.
Volunteers will be along Columbia streets and trails, in streams
and parks Saturday morning picking up litter. There will also be
volunteers working to remove graffiti from public property in central
Columbia. Following trash pickup, volunteers are invited to a picnic
lunch at noon at Twin Lakes Recreation Area to celebrate their efforts.

The public is encouraged to use caution while driving in
Columbia on Saturday morning as volunteers may be working near
roadways.
Cleanup Columbia volunteers are also part of the statewide “No
More Trash Bash” held each April by the Missouri Department of
Transportation and Missouri Department of Conservation.
Cleanup Columbia is sponsored by APAC-Missouri Division, the
Sierra Club, CenturyTel, Wal-Mart, the Columbia Daily Tribune, 102.3
BXR, the Mid-Missouri CW and KOMU TV 8. Columbia Public Works and the
Golden K Kiwanis Club provide special assistance for the event.
To learn more about Cleanup Columbia, contact the Office of
Volunteer Services at 874-7499 or visit the city’s Web site at
