One in custody after vehicle intentionally burned
COLUMBIA, MO (April 23, 2009) - Columbia firefighters were called at
10:48 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, to 1548 Towne Drive, Georgetown
Complex Apartments, for a report of a vehicle fire.
Fire crews found one vehicle fully engulfed in flames, which was
extinguished after approximately five minutes. There were no injuries
and the vehicle is considered a total loss. No structures or other
vehicles were damaged as a result of this fire.
Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department were on-scene and have
determined the fire was intentionally set. Officers from the Columbia
Police Department are assisting with the investigation. Several
witnesses identified a suspect to police and fire department
investigators. Further investigation revealed the vehicle owner had been
a recent domestic violence victim, and had received threats relating to
her car. The Columbia Police Department has taken one person into
custody in connection with this incident; he is currently being
interviewed by investigators.
