September is Way To Go To Work Month!
COLUMBIA, MO (August 24, 2009) - September is the perfect time to make
a bike ride, a walk or a bus ride part of your daily commute. GetAbout
Columbia’s Way To Go To Work month is full of activities including
brown bag lunch seminars, guided bike rides and opportunities to get
free commuting gear.
Brown Bag Lunch Seminars take place on Tuesdays, noon to 1 p.m. at
various locations. Go to getaboutcolumbia.com for details. Participants
will receive active commuting advice from people who do it every day.
Seminar topics include bike and commuting gear, safety and riding
skills, and what to take to work to freshen up once you get there. Staff
will also help plan active commuting routes.
GetAbout Columbia By Bike guided rides will tour GetAbout Columbia
infrastructure projects around town on Thursdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Weekly rides will be led by experienced, on-street riders and begin at
the GetAbout Columbia office, 101 N. Seventh St. Call (573) 442-7189,
ext. 29, to register. With notice of special interests, routes can be
customized for each group. Helmets are required.
While supplies last, Brown Bag Lunch Seminar and GetAbout Columbia By
Bike guided ride participants will receive free commuting gear like
pedometers, canvas bags, bike light sets and reflective leg/arm bands.
Whether it’s walking or biking to work once or several times a week,
participants can set a personal goal and use a Way To Go card as a
reminder. At the end of the month, cards can be redeemed for free
commuting gear at the GetAbout Columbia office. Way To Go cards also
serve as registration in a drawing for a commuter bag, perfect for
walkers or bicyclists. Way To Go cards must be dropped off or mailed by
Oct. 16, 2009, to qualify.

Way To Go To Work is a part of GetAbout Columbia, which is a
communitywide project designed to encourage active modes of
transportation-travel other than in cars. Funding for GetAbout Columbia
is provided by the Federal Highway Administration’s Non-Motorized
Transportation Pilot Program.
