Traffic counts to begin

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Missouri Department of Transportation
(MoDOT) will begin performing traffic counts on various roads throughout
the city beginning the week of Jan. 19, weather permitting. Counts will
be performed over several weeks and should be complete later this
spring.
These counts are typically performed using “tube” counters.
Tube counters utilize pressurized air to count vehicles. A small tube
(typically black) will be stretched across some or all lanes. Drivers
shouldn’t need to significantly alter their driving habits, but should
use extra caution when workers are present near the devices.
MoDOT and the city use regular traffic counts for planning and
traffic operation purposes, which are typically performed every three
years.
