Fire at 4200 Rock Quarry claims one life - update

COLUMBIA, MO (January 20, 2009) - The structure fire reported at 3:05
a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 4200 Rock Quarry Road destroyed a shed
behind a home. Fire crews discovered a shed fully engulfed in flames and
quickly extinguished the fire. 

Investigators later discovered a body in the rubble of the shed which
was completely destroyed. 

Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department, the Columbia Police
Department and the Medical Examiners Office are still working the scene
as of 10:30 a.m. to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The
cause of the fire and death remain under investigation.

The Boone County Medical Examiners Office has removed the body from the
scene and will work to provide investigators a cause of death and
identification of the deceased. 

The owner of the property, Carolyn Matthews, Columbia, was residing on
the property at the time of the fire but was not directly affected by
the fire in the out building.
