Saturday Science: students study renewable energy
Time: Saturdays, Jan. 31 and Feb. 14, 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Place: Water and Light Casteel Building, 1518 Business Loop 70
East
(across the street from the Power Plant)
(Columbia, MO) - Mentions of renewable energy are abundant these
days but how do the projects really work? Columbia junior high students
spend this Saturday morning learning the science behind renewable energy
projects with Columbia Water & Light staff. Demonstrations on how wind,
solar and biogas energy is created help students apply science
principles to topics they hear about in daily life.
Saturday Science was started by the Columbia Public Schools and
the University of Missouri along with local businesses to encourage
students’ interest in science. Students apply for the program through
their junior high school then spend several Saturdays traveling to
different locations to learn how science is used in various
occupations.
