COLUMBIA, MO - Columbia Parks and Recreation, along with other
community agencies, is holding a basketball challenge/tournament for
teens between the ages of 13 and 17, called Think Safe - Love and
Basketball. 

This event will be held from 5:30-10:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7 and
from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 8 at the Armory Sports
Center. Basketball teams will compete in tournament pools with their age
groups (League 1 - 13-14 year-olds, League 2 - 15-17 year-olds), as well
as learn about healthy life direction from successful former basketball
players. Female teens are encouraged to compete also. Team entry fees
are $50 and T-shirts and door prizes to be given away. Medals will honor
the top three teams.  Parents are invited to attend and will also learn
skills to communicate more effectively with their teen. 

Interested teams must register at the Parks and Recreation website or
by phone at 874-7460 by July 17th.

This event is also sponsored by YC2, The Boone Electric Community Trust
and the First Ward Ambassadors, Columbia/Boone County Dept. of Public
Health and Human Services, Urban Empowerment, United Community
Cathedral, Boone County Community Partnership and Center for Adolescent
Sexuality, Pregnancy and Parenting.
