Potential exists for flooding; flood advisory issued
COLUMBIA, MO (June 15, 2009) - The National Weather Service (NWS) has
issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Boone County until
2:30 this afternoon. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is
watching the weather situation for problems which could arise due to the
possibility of heavy rain.
“An Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory is designed to alert the
public to flooding which is generally not life-threatening to those
living in the affected area,” said Interim OEM Director Zim Schwartze.
“This means that the heavy rain we received this morning could cause
minor to moderate flooding of streets and low-lying places. We ask
motorists and those living close to creeks and streams in Boone County
to exercise caution through the day.”
In addition, the potential exists for more rain and strong
thunderstorms over the next 24 hours. Schwartze recommends that
residents stay tuned to local media for the latest weather information,
and have a plan in place in the event of severe weather and flooding.
