Fifth annual Stream Extravaganza set for June 17

(Columbia, MO) -- The Columbia Public Works Department announces the
fifth annual Stream Extravaganza on Wednesday, June 17, from 6-8 p.m. at
Flat Branch Park, Fourth and Locust. Stream Extravaganza is a free
family event for all ages. It’s an opportunity to learn about
watersheds, storm water and streams that run through Columbia and the
wildlife that depends on those streams. Environmentally-friendly lawn
care, rain gardens and rain barrels will also be highlighted.
There are plenty of activities for the entire family with an evening of
fun, frogs, fishing poles, birds, nature tattoos, learning and magic for
all ages. Cast a fishing line, pick up a crawdad, learn about water
quality and build your own boat out of nature’s materials. Then send
it floating down Flat Branch. Touch wildlife pelts, make bird feeders
and identify “Tattletale Bugs” that indicate the health of a stream.
DeeBee the Conservation Clown will also be on hand.
The program is sponsored by the City of Columbia Public Works and Boone
County Public Works. For more information about Stream Extravaganza,
visit the Columbia Public Works page of the city’s Web site at
www.GoColumbiaMo.com, or call Mike Heimos, Columbia Stormwater
Educator, at (573) 874-7250.
