Thunderstorms impact Boone County; minor damage and power outages
reported
COLUMBIA, MO (June 24, 2009) - Another round of strong thunderstorms
moved through Columbia and Boone County late Tuesday night, causing a
few problems. The Office of Emergency Management’s Joint Operations
Center received a number of storm-related reports, including tree limbs
blown down in the Columbia area, trees downed in northern Boone County
and multiple power outages in and around Columbia. No damage to
structures and no injuries were reported in the brief storm.
Meanwhile, the Office of Emergency Management reminds residents that a
heat advisory has been extended through 7 p.m. Saturday evening for the
area. Residents are encouraged to be careful in the heat today, take
frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas and drink plenty of
water.
