Potential still exists for weekend flooding
COLUMBIA, MO (May 1, 2009) - With the potential for more rain this
weekend, the Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency Management (OEM)
continues to advise motorists to be cautious and aware of the dangers at
low-water crossings. Several crossings remain closed due to this
week’s rain, and the potential of more rain falling on already
saturated ground continues the threat of flooding.

“We want to remind everyone to avoid low-water crossings over the
weekend,” says OEM Director James McNabb. “We’ve already seen a
trio of incidents in which drivers had to be rescued after attempting to
cross areas where water covered the road. Thankfully, no one has been
injured or killed, and we hope to prevent any injuries or death. We just
ask motorists to take a little extra time, and find an alternate route
to get to their destination, when they approach a water-covered road.”

The latest NWS forecast calls for an additional half inch of rain to
fall through Saturday night in Columbia and Boone County. No watches or
warnings have been issued for the immediate area at this time.
