Parks and Recreation, Boone County to Dedicate Atkins Park

COLUMBIA, MO - Columbia Parks and Recreation is planning a dedication
ceremony at the new Thomas E. “Country” Atkins Jr. Memorial Park on
Monday, May 11. Located adjacent to the Boone County Fairgrounds, Atkins
Park is cooperatively owned by the City of Columbia and Boone County.
The dedication will be held at 5:45 p.m., prior to the evening’s
baseball games. 

The 81-acre park at 5220 N. Oakland Gravel Road is the site of two new
lighted baseball fields. The fields opened for play in March, although
the park remains under development. 

The property was donated by Tom Atkins in 2002 to the City of Columbia
and Boone County, each having undivided one-half interest. Mr. Atkins
donated the land with the intent that the land be developed for youth
recreation.	

The ceremony will include remarks by city and county officials, a
ribbon-cutting ceremony, ceremonial first pitch, giveaways and
refreshments.
