Window air conditioner exchange on Monday

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Reducing cooling costs for Columbia’s
low-income residents is very important during these challenging economic
times. The goal of the Window Air Conditioning Exchange program is to
provide more efficient, cost-effective units to Columbia Water & Light
electric customers. On Monday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,
qualifying customers are urged to bring their old window unit to Central
Missouri Community Action located at 400 Wilkes Boulevard and exchange
it for a new unit.
Columbia Water & Light has partnered with Central Missouri
Community Action (CMCA) since 2006 and has provided around 100 efficient
window air conditioners each summer. CMCA has been identifying possible
participants who are either over the age of 65, disabled or families
with young children who have an annual income of less than 200 percent
of the poverty level. The new units will help Columbians control cooling
costs, help with the city’s conservation efforts and provide effective
cooling to prevent health-related heat issues.

Below are the eligibility requirements for the Air Conditioner
Exchange program:
You must be a current city of Columbia electric customer
You must have an older, less efficient/broken window unit to
exchange
You have an annual income of less than 200 percent of the
poverty level

The following are first priority for the exchange program:
1.	65 years of age or older
2.	Receive income for a disability
3.	Have children age 5 or younger living in the household
There are a limited number of units to exchange so people are
urged to show up early on June 1. Those unable to bring in the older
unit to exchange for a new unit should contact the CMCA-Boone County
Family Resource Center at (573) 443-8731.
