Governor dedicates renewable energy project
Dedication and tour of the Jefferson City landfill gas to energy
project
Monday, October 19, 2009 at 3 p.m.
8200 No More Victims Road
Jefferson City, MO 65101
Governor Jay Nixon will cut the ribbon and unveil the new renewable
energy and waste heat utilization project in Jefferson City on Monday.
For this project, landfill gas from the Jefferson City landfill is
captured and piped to the generation facility where it is used to
generate 3.2 megawatts of energy. The renewable energy is purchased by
Columbia Water & Light to meet the city’s renewable energy ordinance.
This energy represents 2 percent of the Columbia electric portfolio and
is equal to the amount of power used by 2,000 homes. In addition, the
waste heat generated by the engines is captured and used to supply steam
and hot water to the Jefferson City Correctional Center, a state-owned
prison facility. This project was recently highlighted by the White
House for its contribution to creating jobs while helping expand the
development of clean, renewable, domestic energy.
Also attending the event will be: George A. Lombardi, Director,
Missouri Department of Corrections; Darwin Hindman, Mayor, City of
Columbia, Missouri; and representatives from Ameresco, Republic Services
Inc., Columbia Water & Light and Northeast Energy Systems (GE
Jenbacher).
Directions: The energy generation facility is just outside of the
Jefferson City Correctional Center. From Columbia, take US Highway 63
south towards Jefferson City. Merge onto US Highway 63 toward Jefferson
City. Go east on US Highway 50 east. Take the Militia Drive ramp and
turn left. After one mile, turn right onto No More Victims Road. Signs
will direct you to your final destination.
