Cleanup Columbia will be Saturday, April 24
(COLUMBIA, MO) – The 14th annual Cleanup Columbia, a citywide trash
pickup event organized by the city of Columbia’s Volunteer Program, will
be held Saturday, April 24. Already, more than 1,570 volunteers
representing 163 groups have registered to participate.
Volunteers will be along Columbia streets and trails, in streams and in
parks on April 24 picking up litter. There will also be volunteers
working to remove graffiti from public property in central Columbia.
Following trash pickup, volunteers are invited to a picnic lunch at noon
at Twin Lakes Recreation Area to celebrate their efforts.
The city’s Volunteer Program invites the public to participate in the
event, as there as still several streets which are unassigned. Residents
may register online at www.GoColumbiaMo.com or by calling 874-7499. The
city also invites the public to share street locations where they see
trash so volunteers can be assigned to those locations; there is a form
on the city’s Web site where this can be reported.
Cleanup Columbia is sponsored by APAC-Missouri Division, the Sierra
Club, CenturyLink, the Columbia Daily Tribune, 102.3 BXR, the
Mid-Missouri CW and KOMU TV 8. Columbia Public Works, Firestone Tires
and the Golden K Kiwanis Club provide special assistance for the event.
