PSJC will host open house on Wednesday

COLUMBIA, MO (April 12, 2010) - The Columbia/Boone County Public Safety
Joint Communications (PSJC) Center will host an open house this
Wednesday, April 14, to give public safety personnel and citizens of our
community the chance to tour the 9-1-1 operations center.

“We invite everyone to drop by and look around at a facility that they
may only come in contact with over the phone,” says PSJC Director Zim
Schwartze. “The open house will give residents a chance to observe the
operations center, meet with 9-1-1 operators and look over the
state-of-the-art equipment used to connect them to emergency services in
time of crisis. Our hope is that more people will understand the work
that is done behind the scenes, and the agencies we work with when
someone makes a 9-1-1 call.”

Wednesday’s open house is part of the PSJC observance of “National
Telecommunications Week”. The 9-1-1 operations center will be open to
the public from 1-3 p.m. A proclamation signed by the Columbia mayor and
Boone County commissioners will be read at 1:30 p.m. Light refreshments
will be available during the event.
