City receives budget award
        
(COLUMBIA, MO) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of
the United States and Canada recently awarded the Distinguished Budget
Presentation Award to the City of Columbia for its budget.

According to a GFOA press release, the award represents a significant
achievement by the city. It reflects the commitment of the governing
body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental
budgeting.
Award criteria requires that the governmental entity receiving the
award satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget
presentation. The guidelines assess how well the governmental entity’s
budget serves as (1) a policy document, (2) a financial plan, (3) an
operations guide and (4) a communications device. Budget documents must
be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory
criteria within those categories, to receive the award. 
The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only
national awards program in governmental budgeting. 
The city’s budget is available for review at the Daniel Boone Regional
Library in Columbia and at the Finance Department. It is also available
on the city’s Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com.
