Home Damaged by Fire after Medical Emergency

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 to 504 Rogers Street for a report of a structure fire.

Fire crews arrived and upon entry, discovered smoke in the home and a small fire in the kitchen.  It took approximately five minutes to bring the fire under control.  Fire damage was confined to the kitchen, with minor smoke and water damage throughout the entire home.  Additional crews worked to remove the remaining smoke from the home.  There were no injuries and damage is estimated at $5,000.

Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department are currently on-scene and the cause remains under investigation.

The home was equipped with smoke alarms, which did sound during the fire.

At 7:10 a.m., fire and EMS units were dispatched to this same home for a medical emergency.  The female, primary resident, of the home was transported to University Hospital by ambulance for treatment and was still in the hospital at the time of the fire.
