Multiple Crashes on I-70 near the US Highway 63 Connector

(Columbia, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department, three ambulances, and law
enforcement responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash at 6:40 PM on
Friday, August 19, 2010 on I-70 in the west-bound lanes near the US
Highway 63 Connector.
Two tractor-trailers, one RV, and seven passenger vehicles were involved
in multiple crashes in the west-bound lanes of I-70 both east and west
of the US Highway 63 Connector.
Fire fighters extricated one patient and treated seven others. The
extricated patient was transported as a Trauma Alert, meaning that they
may be suffering life threatening injuries. The extended extrication
took about 30 minutes to perform.
Seven other patients were transported to local hospitals with what are
believed to be non life threatening injuries.
I-70 was closed for over two hours while emergency crews worked at the
scene.
The Columbia Police Department is investigating the cause of the
crash(es) and should be contacted for any additional information.
