Public Art Opportunity: Downtown Traffic Box

(COLUMBIA, MO) -- The city of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA)
requests proposals from mid-Missouri artists for its annual “Traffic Box
Art” program. One artist will be selected to address the traffic signal
box at Broadway and Seventh Street in The District. The honorarium to be
provided is $1,500.
The goal of the Traffic Box Art program is to make traffic signal boxes
more resistant to graffiti while contributing to the uniqueness of the
downtown streetscape. After a successful pilot project in 2007, the OCA
launched an annual program.
Applicants must submit a preliminary design proposal using a template
provided as well as basic qualifications. The project guidelines and the
design template are available at www.GoColumbiaMo.com/Arts (select the
“Artist Opportunity: Traffic Box Art” link at the top of the page) or
by contacting the OCA for a printed copy. To be considered, complete
applications must be postmarked by Feb. 18, 2011.

For more information, contact the OCA at (573) 874-6386,
oca at GoColumbiaMo.com.
