ColumbiaFire Fighters Beneficiary of Training Grant
 
The Columbia Fire Department has been notified they are recipients of grants which will provide topical and timely training on the topic of hazardous materials.
 
Department wide training is taking place this week and next on hazardous materials awareness and handling. 
 
Later this month, two additional classes, HazMat – Emergency Response and HazMat – Frontline Safety will be offered to up to 24 members of the department. 
 
The classes were made possible by grants obtained by the Columbia Professional Fire Fighters. Instructors from across the country are being brought into Columbiaat no cost to the Columbia Fire Department. 
 
Chief William Markgraf thanked the Columbia Professional Fire Fighters (Local 1055) for the work they have done to obtain the grant funding from the International Association of Fire Fighters and other federal agencies which brought this training opportunity to Columbia. The dollar value of the training is estimated at $40,000.00.
