Children Injured in Three Car Accident

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 6:22 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 to the intersection of College Avenue and Locust Street for a report of an extrication accident.

Fire Fighters arrived and found a red Ford Focus, a green Honda Civic, and a red Honda Prelude in the intersection with heavy damage.  Fire crews discovered three injured children, ages five months, six years, and eight years.  There were no occupants trapped in any of the vehicles.  All three children were transported to University Hospital by ambulance.  Two of the children's injuries were considered life-threatening and the other child's injuries were considered minor.  There were no other injuries relating to this incident.

Crews checked the vehicles for any other possible hazards and controlled fluids leaking from one vehicle.

College Avenue was closed between Broadway Street and University Avenue for approximately one hour while crews worked at the scene.
